Who are we?

Pier 56 is designed to help engage 5th and 6th graders in profound Bible study, form lasting, meaningful connections between peers, and encourage the growth and maturity of spiritual foundations so they are equipped to make choices for Christ in their everyday lives.

Over the course of two years, everything begins to change: school, bodies, relationships. Expectations begin to change. Even their role in the world begins to change and they know it! They are beginning to make decisions about who they will be as adults. Who and what is cool? Who will they listen to and who are they going to follow?

5th and 6th graders are a unique group of students caught between feelings of redundancy and boredom in the elementary program and inadequacy and unease in the youth program. These preteens are in search of a place to call their own: Pier 56!

What can we expect?

Pier 56 meets on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour in Room 10. We begin with a time of praise and worship and then move in to a study of God’s word aimed directly at the challenges faced by our preteens. Students meet in Room 10 for a whole-group discussion and then break into small groups for a time of prayer and focused conversation.

What will we learn about?

Pier 56 has adopted an exciting curriculum designed specifically for 5th and 6th graders. It covers an array of topics from school and stress to challenges and changes.

Flyte is designed to address the needs of our preteens. Each volume of the series covers three big units or ideas (such as Family, Heaven, and Change in Volume 1). During weekly segments students will experience meaningful Bible study, music videos, and real-life scenarios to help them understand and apply their new knowledge to their daily lives. If you are interested in learning more about Flyte, please contact Kristen Weber or Jim Davis.

Discussion topics will be posted on our monthly calendar.

Will there be anything fun?

Pier 56 hosts monthly events to encourage connections and relationships between our preteens.  Some of these events are specifically created as outreach events in which Pier 56 students are encouraged to bring friends from outside of our church family. Other events are just something fun and encouraging for our students. While these events are designed primarily for the 5th and 6th graders, families are encouraged to join in the fun.
