Don’t you just love the competition, the patriotism, and of course, the athletes and their compelling stories to victory? The Apostle Paul more than likely must have been a fan of the Olympics when he wrote I Cor. 9:24: “Do you not know that in a race all runners compete, but only one receives the prize. So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.” Paul, the brilliant communicator, took the popular Olympic games and applied it in a relationship to God, sanctification, and eternity. In our final summer series, “Pursuing Christ,” we will talk about what having victory in Christ is all about.
