Why did God give his people a law? The Hebrew people had just been delivered from the Egyptians and led into the uncertainty of the wilderness. And, in one of his first acts in the wilderness, God makes a covenant with his people, and gives them a law. How would this law be received by the people? Would they apply and live by it? What function(s) did God assign the law to perform for the people?
